Joining Intuitive Surgical means joining a team dedicated to using technology to benefit patients by improving surgical efficacy and decreasing surgical invasiveness, with patient safety as our highest priority. 

Primary Function of Position:

Intuitive Surgical designs and manufactures highly complex mechanical systems (including instruments and accessories) for use in surgery. The Supervisor of Lab Operations is responsible for supervision of the lab technicians, maintenance for the development test lab, and equipment to provide support for product evaluations.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Supervisory functions for lab technicians, including: 
    • Time card approval 
    • Time off coordination 
    • Development plans 
    • Performance reviews 
    • Raise and bonus determinations 
  • Project test scheduling 
  • Coordination of technician project allocation 
  • Coordinate improvements/moves with Facilities department 
  • Lab layout management for efficiency 
  • Coordinate preventive maintenance of equipment 
  • Determine and execute purchasing of appropriate service contracts for equipment 
  • Determine equipment schedule/workload 
  • Management of test lab consumables 
  • Coordination of equipment/fixture calibration 
  • Biohazard disposal coordination 
  • Proprietary product disposal / archive 


Skill/Job Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Life Sciences with 2-3 years experience, or Associates degree with 4-5 years’ experience
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor test lab personnel, especially with multi-shift schedules
  • Demonstrated understanding of or aptitude to understand product development lifecycles, design change and document change control, process verification and validation methodologies in a medical device environment
  • Demonstrated ability to be a quick learner and understand complex products and processes
  • Good analytical, problem-solving, and root-cause analysis skills
  • Change agent with energy, passion, and enthusiasm to drive change
  • Excellent verbal communication and writing skills in the context of reports, business correspondence, procedures
  • Integrity: Accepting and adhering to high ethical, moral, and personal values in decisions, communications, actions, and when dealing with others
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and with minimal supervision, multi-task, and handle tasks with competing priorities effectively
  • Ability to think strategically, working with key stakeholders to resolve resource allocation issues
  • Strong computer skills and experience with Windows operating system and Microsoft Office
  • 1-2 years relevant experience in a medical device company, or equivalent regulated industry
  • Demonstrated interest in medical devices, surgery, and the medical field
  • Familiarity with medical device reprocessing equipment
  • Experience with Agile/ACCS and SAP or other electronic documentation systems
  • Experience with Ariba or other electronic purchasing system
