Must be concurrently enrolled in a degree-seeking program with an accredited university or enrolled in an upcoming program in the fall. 
Primary Function of Position:
We are seeking a summer intern to support the fiber optics team focused on tasks related to design modifications and verification of parts in complex systems. The intern will:
  • Assemble and optimize fixtures
  • Follow instruction to test components and assemblies
  • Operate fixtures to conduct testing as required
  • Write reports
  • Maintain data folders
  • Maintain engineering lab and equipment
  • Assist with minor part modifications

Skill/Job Requirements:
  • Completion of at least 2 years of undergraduate mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or biomedical engineering before start of internship
  • Experience with mechanism components and use of basic shop tools
  • Knowledge of and familiarity with LabVIEW
  • Ability to work well in a team environment
  • Design and analysis skills related to test engineering
  • Ability to communicate effectively (written, oral) with the team
  • Fiber optic experience is preferred, but not required
Learning Outcomes:
  • Analyze test data to improve system reliability.
  • Gain trouble shooting skills. 
  • Learn how to detect and identify system failure modes through comprehensive testing.
    Commitment:  Must be available to work full-time or part-time hours, M-F for a minimum 10-12 weeks in the summer, preferably with the ability to also work part-time hours in spring, fall, and/or winter.
