Primary Function of Position:

As a member of the Global Public Affairs team, the Senior Manager of Social Media is responsible for contributing to all facets of the Intuitive Surgical Social Media and Engagement program including: developing a thought-provoking and inclusive corporate social strategy with measurement and processes from the ground up; creating a regular stream of content to amplify thought leadership via social media; performing community management; implementing paid social campaigns; managing social media reporting; working cross functionally with subject matter experts and agency partners; supporting functional development across the enterprise.

Responsibilities:

This position is expected to support the advancement of the Global Public Affairs team, which includes the following responsibilities:

Social Media
  • Plan, develop and execute comprehensive social media programs with department leadership to further amplify thought leadership efforts 
  • Help build the global social media relations capacity, including maintaining active social media channels, influencer engagement and social media training 
  • Work cross functionally within the organization to identify content opportunities for the social media editorial calendar 
  • Maintain and develop social media community relationships through thoughtful engagement
  • Provide social media counsel to internal spokespeople, including executives, as required
  • Identify potential new platforms for Intuitive Surgical to leverage to achieve communication goals
  • Monitor the social landscape as well as the Intuitive Surgical social media platforms (e.g., Twitter, LinkedIn and YouTube) and respond as needed
  • Recognize opportunities for and execute paid promotion campaigns on Intuitive Surgical social media platforms
  • Prioritize day-to-day social media requests, develop responses and engage online physicians, consumers and influencers, as appropriate 
  • Maintain consistent contact with marketing, human resources, legal, investor relations, clinical and sales management teams to ensure alignment
  • Liaise with agency partner for social media analytics and reporting

Writing and Editing
  • Candidate must have superior writing and editing skills including social media editorial content, plans and multimedia/digital materials, clinical and policy communications 
Marketing Knowledge
  • Required: possess in-depth knowledge of today’s top social media platforms and how to use them
  • Preferred: knowledge of key issues related to robotic-assisted surgery products, emerging technologies, competition and general issues facing the medtech industry
  • Preferred: understanding of FDA and FTC regulations guiding social media efforts for medical device companies
  • Preferred: Existing relationships with healthcare and/or medtech industry influencers
Qualifications

Skill/Job Requirements:

Competency Requirements: (Competency is based on: education, training, skills and experience.) To adequately perform the responsibilities of this position, the individual must:

  • Have a minimum of 8-10 years of experience in public affairs, corporate communications, public relations or journalism; 5  of those years with direct experience in social media
  • Have demonstrated proficiency with social media platforms, with paid promotions experience across the major platforms
  • Have hands-on experience in content management and measurement (e.g., proven ability to use tools and software to analyze content and track visitor data, determine efficacy and areas for improvement)
  • Have exceptional writing skills with ability to create compelling, engaging and fresh social media content, as well as work with agency partners and creative teams
  • Comfortable with design software such as InDesign
  • Be team-oriented with proven track record of results
  • Be able to meet deadlines while multi-tasking
  • Be able to identify new areas to grow Intuitive Surgical’s social media presence, including trends to inform development of social strategy
  • Be able to develop and maintain relationships with social media platform representatives for paid promotions
  • Be willing to contribute to projects that fall outside of core responsibilities, as needed
  • Possess the ability to execute in a fast-paced environment
  • Have experience working in a global corporate environment
  • Have a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
