Primary Function of Position:
This job exists to conceptualize, select, design and develop image sensors and related technologies for ISI’s New Product Development group, using fundamental understanding of these devices and lab measurements to effectively guide New Product Development.
The successful candidate must excel in a high-energy small focused team environment, be able to drive to solutions from rough requirements, and have a commitment to high product quality. Quick learning and a desire to understand requirements and create solutions are essential to become a valuable part of this team. A strong sense of shared responsibility and shared reward is required, as is the ability to make work fun and interesting. Supporting you will be a development and management team that knows and cares about what you are doing, and wants you to succeed.
Roles and Responsibilities:
This position has responsibility and authority to:
• Perform detailed tradeoff analyses for selecting image sensor, optical and data transmission components for optimum system performance and cost• Design, build, debug and evaluate prototype hardware and for “works-like” prototypes of novel image acquisition systems, including sensor packaging and integration to optics and system• Design and implement image sensor test platform for image sensor evaluation and debug• Develop functional specifications, manufacturing/inspection requirements and verification protocols for ISI imaging products and subcomponents• Guide the design and fabrication of custom image sensors with outside partners and system components to meet ISI’s needs• Extend and deepen ISI’s ability to measure relevant parameters of image sensors, optics, light sources and related components• Participate in the development of relevant industry standards• Guide the implementation of manufacturing processes for image acquisition systems based on off-the-shelf and custom image sensors• Interface with other engineering disciplines including mechanical and software engineering
• Graduate degree in EE, Image science or related field, or commensurate experience• Comfort with making complex, multidisciplinary tradeoffs in the face of incomplete information typical of new product development• Technical depth in CMOS image sensors, optical systems, illumination and data transmission/processing for imaging systems• Experience with image sensors operating outside the visible range desirable• Analytic ability sufficient to model novel optical/imaging systems and assess performance tradeoffs prior to making substantial investments• Familiarity with Matlab sufficient to understand and extend modeling and data analysis tools• Experience with semiconductor design, fabrication and packaging• Experience with high-speed data communication, signal integrity and isolation techniques• Experience in designing to meet EMI and EMC requirements and immunity to electro-magnetic noise sources• Comfort with concepts of design input, design output, traceability, and risk analysis• Experience with OrCAD, Allegro or similar PCB design and layout tools• Verilog and Xilinx FPGA development tools, and embedded software experience desirable• Familiarity with IEC 60601 medical device safety and related standards• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills• Proficiency in all phases of the development lifecycle including design, implementation, verification, validations, and transfer to manufacturing
