Primary Function of Position:

Contribute your technical manufacturing, design, and project management skills to a dynamic manufacturing team building precision instruments for minimally invasive robotic surgery. This broad leadership position will focus on meeting manufacturing operations, product performance, and cost goals for emerging surgical instrument technologies. Individuals in this role will support the full “product engineering” lifecycle, from design validation and verification, manufacturing launch, and sustaining design improvements in response to customer feedback.

Roles and Responsibilities:

• Identify and implement continuous improvement projects with respect to first pass yield, cycle time reduction, product reliability, and cost reduction.
• Support compliance within medical device quality system including discrepant material dispositions (MRB), ECO origination/implementation, and corrective action (CAPA) closure.
• Review failure analysis reports, perform Pareto analysis, identify and implement design improvements for product robustness.
• Evaluate and select suppliers for mechanical parts. Help resolve supplier quality issues.
• Provide design teams with DFM input to ensure consistency/commonality among hardware and standard part selections across product/sub-assembly lines.
• Maintain and improve efficient “mid-volume’ manufacturing assembly line including:

o Specify, document, procure, qualify, implement, and improve fixtures, hand tools and equipment.
o Workplace and flow process development.
o Determine and incorporate critical feature inspection and test checkpoints into process.

Skill/Job Requirements: 

• BSME required, MSME preferred.
• At least 2 years mechanical or manufacturing engineering experience required, with Mid/high volume surgical instruments preferred.
• CAD experience required.
• Great attitude, eager, willing/able to take initiative, works well with others in team environment, exceptional judgment.
• Able to travel periodically (5-10%) to support Mexico facility and supply chain.
• Experienced in ISO 13485, FDA QSR, or medical device manufacturing environment.
• Familiarity with sterilization processes and cleanroom/controlled-environment room (CER) preferred.
• Experience applying automated equipment, complex mechanisms, robotics, sensors, equipment automation, or mechatronics preferred.
• Experience in Just-In-Time, Demand Flow Technology, and Lean Manufacturing techniques preferred.
