Primary Function of Position:

The successful candidate:
• Contributes to the successful manufacture of complex surgical instruments used in computer-enhanced surgical applications
• Leads improvements efforts which optimize reliability, manufacturability, capacity, and cost
• Makes careful, sound decisions when faced with the pressures typical of new product development and manufacturing; excelling in a high-energy team environment

Position Roles and Responsibilities:

Specific responsibilities for this Manufacturing Engineer position include:
• Provide technical support and analysis for discrepant production components and assemblies
• Develop and/or improve formal manufacturing processes
• Design or modify, build, document and qualify manufacturing assembly/test fixtures
• Assist supplier quality engineers with material procurement issues and supplier communication
• Evaluate manufacturability of surgical instrument designs, providing feedback to the design team
• Iterate component designs for reliability improvements and cost reductions
• Approve design releases to manufacturing, review engineering documentation, and provide vendor and in-house design for manufacturing (DFM) inputs
• Manage the Instrument’s material configuration (BOM)
• Support Verification and Validation activities
• Provide training and support to production technicians
• Support compliance with medical device quality system including corrective action closure, discrepant material dispositions and ECO implementation
Qualifications

Skills/Experience:

• 2 or more years in mid/high volume manufacturing of complex mechanisms
• 2 or more years in Manufacturing engineering that includes the relevant responsibilities listed above
• Bachelors’ degree in Mechanical Engineering or related technical discipline
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• Experience in DFM assessment and BOM development
• Use of Agile and/or SAP or similar manufacturing data management tools
• Experience working with, and ability to travel to suppliers
• Experienced in ISO 9001, or medical device manufacturing environment
• CAD experience (SolidWorks) a plus
• Machining or molding experience a plus
