Position’s Objective & Summary:
Serve the development of the evidence base for Robotic Assisted Surgery (RAS), and surgeon adoption of RAS by driving Legal excellence in healthcare law.
Roles & Responsibilities:
Focus Area: legal and compliance support in the context of R&D, clinical studies, proctoring, HCP training and education, scientific communication and peer-to-peer exchanges between HCPs.
Policies and procedures
  • Working closely with Clinical Affairs, Compliance, IT and the Polaris team, as well as with US counterparts, to set up legal and compliance processes for contracting and compliance in the Focus Area.
  • Offer dedicated, active, positive and solutions-oriented contributions to Clinical Affairs and Compliance in their endeavors to set up policies and procedures in the Focus Area
  • Responsible for contracting with HCP, HCO and other stakeholders in the Focus Area
  • With outside counsel support, build a consistent set of templates in English, English-German and English-French, including research grants, investigation site agreements, investigator agreements, CRO agreements, data management services’ agreements, standard PIC wording and data protection wording.
  • Review templates on a regular basis, and expand to further jurisdictions upon request
  • Act as the trusted point of reference for legal questions related to the Focus Area
  • Provide training on legal and high-level (e.g. separation principle) compliance implications of activities in the Focus Area

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:
  • Law degree (College degree; JD or equivalent required)
  • Significant (7+ years) experience serving in legal and compliance positions in the healthcare sector, with involvement in clinical studies, HCP, HCO, CRO and competent authorities’ interactions
  • Significant experience (typically >3 years) leading departmental and cross-functional projects
  • Significant experience (typically >3 years) driving continuous improvements
  • Identify and communicate changes and potential implications to current and future work/projects
  • Identify and leverage best practices across multiple projects and teams
  • Work with considerable autonomy
  • Identify and plan Legal strategies, operational plans, goals, budgets and metrics to drive Legal KPIs
  • Proven effectiveness leading complex projects
  • Proven effectiveness coaching, guiding and developing others; lead global, cross-functional teams; represent the department at the highest levels, including executives and senior management
  • Demonstrated ability to work with others in an international, multicultural team environment
  • Unflinching integrity and strong character (backbone)
  • Mature, autonomous, self-starter, capable of initiative, accepting accountability, managing shifting priorities and ambiguity
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:
  • Familiarity with Polaris or similar platforms is a plus
  • Fluency in English and either French or German is a “must have”
