Primary Function of Position:

The Project Engineer (PE) will support the Training Technologies staff in all facets of product lifecycle management including new product development, ongoing product improvement, product launches and customer and sales support. These projects relate to the core technologies in simulation and remote collaboration. The Project Engineer will support the concurrent operations of the Training Technology projects. The Project Engineer will support the collection and translation of customer feedback into prioritized product enhancement ideas for development and help create market requirements. The PE will support development of product training and product marketing collateral and will provide assistance to customers and fields sales.

The successful candidate must excel in a high-energy, focused, small-team environment, be able to organize activities that are as diverse as defining technical specifications to installations at customers sites. The ideal candidate would have a solid engineering background and have a desire to work more closely with implementation of technology. A strong sense of shared responsibility and shared reward is required.

Roles and Responsibilities:

This position has responsibility and authority for: 

• Drive product and program enhancements from market requirements, Provide marketing support and customer perspective to development teams during product development process
• Collaborate with other engineers to confirm product performance by designing and conducting tests where applicable.

o Source engineering materials
o Prototype electro-mechanical components
o System test design
o User test prototype

• Determines project specifications by studying product design, customer requirements, and performance standards; completing technical studies; preparing cost estimates.
• Organize and support internal product testing and external surgeon evaluation studies of new products and features
• Provide continuous product improvement support by identifying and implementing product improvement changes for existing products
• Respond to product-related questions from customers and worldwide sales team and collect customer and sales product feedback
• Provide product-related support for user documentation, product training and marketing collateral development for new products.
• Tracking and driving projects’ progress towards completion.
 
Qualifications

Skill/Job Requirements: 

Competency Requirements: (Competency is based on: education, training, skills and experience.) In order to adequately perform the responsibilities of this position the individual must:

• BS degree in Biomedical, Electrical, Mechanical Engineering, or Computer Science is preferred with 1 to 3 years of relevant work experience
• Must be a self-starter and results oriented, with experience in setting and meeting goals based on department and corporate objectives.
• Must have proficiency with desktop applications including: Word, PowerPoint, Excel.
• Must have experience in an engineering discipline either designing or verifying engineering solutions (electrical, mechanical, or software) in one or more of these disciplines:
o CAD/CAM
o Digital or analog circuit design
o Software development
• Must have solid analytical and problem solving skills.
• Must have experience working in diverse teams and be comfortable with sharing knowledge and learning from other team members.
• Must be willing to work in a hospital operating room environment and/or clinical lab setting.
• Should have experience engaging with product end-customers either in selling activities, gathering feedback, technical troubleshooting, or customer service.
• Should have experience on cross-functional teams and foster strong working relationships.
• Lean Six Sigma training/certification is a plus.
• Clinical knowledge and familiarity with the OR environment is a strong plus.
• Experience working in a regulated environment (FDA) is desired.
• Conversational proficiency in a second language is desired
• Ability to travel up to 33% of the time
• Ability to carry loads up to 50 lbs.
