Company Description:
Joining Intuitive Surgical means joining a team dedicated to using technology to benefit patients by improving surgical efficacy and decreasing surgical invasiveness, with patient safety as our highest priority.
 
Eligibility:
Must be concurrently enrolled and returning to an academic program in the fall in an accredited degree-seeking program.
 
Primary Function of Position:
We are seeking 15-20 Mechanical Engineering Summer Interns to support teams across the organization; including team’s focused on instrument design, system design, manufacturing, vision, system analysis and more. The intern will be recruited to work with a specific team.

 
Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Performing engineering tasks and problem-solving activities related to medical device development and surgical robotic systems and instruments
  • Performing Solid Works design and drawing activities
  • Performing engineering tests
  • Performing documentation activities
  • Communicating and collaborating with multiple teams and stakeholders to provide updates and provide task deliverables.
  • Work on substantive projects that have the potential to impact the future business of the company
  • Presenting the projects they have been involved with and lessons learned to the organization
Qualifications

Skills, Experience, Education, & Training:
  • Current enrollment in a Mechanical Engineering degree-seeking program at the Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctorate level
  • Experience with mechanism components and use of basic shop tools is preferred
  • Prior use of CAD to design mechanisms in SolidWorks is preferred
  • Knowledge of and familiarity with Matlab is preferred
  • Ability to work well in a team environment
  • Ability to communicate effectively (written, oral) with the team
 
Learning Outcomes:
  • Exposure to state-of-the-art robotics
  • Experience with complex mechatronics
  • Familiarity with design, manufacturing and testing in a medical device environment
 
Commitment:  Must be available to work full-time hours, M-F for 10-12 weeks beginning Summer of 2019.
