Company Description:
Joining Intuitive Surgical means joining a team dedicated to using technology to benefit patients by improving surgical efficacy and decreasing surgical invasiveness, with patient safety as our highest priority.
 
Eligibility:
Must be concurrently enrolled and returning to an academic program in the fall in an accredited degree-seeking program.
 
Primary Function of Position:
We are seeking 10-15 Computer Science or Computer Engineering Summer Interns to support teams across the organization; including team’s focused on instrument design, system design, interaction design, research and more. The intern will be recruited to work with a specific team.

 
Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Developing and evaluating complex embedded systems
  • Communicating and collaborating with multiple teams and stakeholders to provide updates and provide task deliverables.
  • Working on substantive projects that have the potential to impact the future business of the company
  • Presenting the projects they have been involved with and lessons learned to the organization
Qualifications

Skills, Experience, Education, & Training:
  • Current enrollment in a Computer Science or Computer Engineering degree-seeking program at the Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctorate level
  • Enthusiasm and passion for medical device technology
  • Experience with robots or electro-mechanical devices is preferred
  • Fluent in C and C++, and comfortable with Python and JavaScript
  • Knowledge of any of the following is a plus: QNX, Linux, and Eclipse
  • Experience with real-time, multi-tasking, embedded operating
  • Ability to work well in a team environment
  • Ability to communicate effectively (written, oral) with the team
 
Learning Outcomes:
  • A deeper understanding of Software Development life cycle processes in a corporate setting.
  • Exposure to state-of-the-art robotics
  • Experience with complex mechatronics
  • Familiarity with design, manufacturing and testing in a medical device environment
 
Commitment:  Must be available to work full-time hours, M-F for 10-12 weeks beginning Summer of 2019.
