Primary Function:

The imaging pipeline group is a part of the vision engineering group at Intuitive. The goal of the group is to deliver the highest image quality to our surgeons for all our da Vinci robot systems. The focus of the group is mainly on the imaging algorithms, algorithmic tuning and scope calibrations needed to accomplish excellent image quality, but we also help spec and define the light source, optics, sensor and displays used on the da Vinci robotic systems because all these components contribute to the surgical image quality. 

Primary Responsibilities:

The senior manager of the imaging pipeline is responsible for managing a small team, technically guiding, setting the direction, and ultimately delivering imaging algorithms and hardware specs that produce the best possible surgical image quality for our da Vinci system surgeons. The manager must interact with our surgeons and clinical team, understand their needs and wants; be able to translate and communicate these needs to the pipeline team and vision organization; develop the imaging algorithms and hardware specs to meet these surgical needs; and work with the hardware, software and manufacturing teams to deliver the solutions into product. Other responsibilities include:

• Managing resources and timelines
• Prioritizing features and development efforts
• Engaging and helping engineers with technically difficult issues
• Understanding, addressing and solving manufacturing issues that arise
• Keeping all product groups aligned with pipeline development efforts
• Keeping up to date with the latest imaging advancements and algorithms
• Patenting novel algorithms and approaches
 
Qualifications

Skills and Job Requirements:

• MS or PhD in electrical engineering, computer science or physics
• Minimum 8 years of experience developing imaging algorithms
• Minimum 4 years of experience managing a highly technical team
• Track record of delivering imaging solutions on schedule
• Extensive knowledge in imaging systems and algorithms
• Strong scientific understanding of imaging physics and human perception
• Strong communication and presentation skills
• Ability to engage and extract needs from surgeons and clinical development staff
• Ability to turn needs into actionable algorithm development
• Ability to work with software and hardware teams
• Experience with Matlab a plus
