Primary Function of Position:

Creatively apply your technical manufacturing and mechanical design expertise to a dynamic role developing novel laser processes and equipment to produce pioneering instruments for minimally invasive robotic surgery. As a key member of the Automation Equipment & Test (AET) organization, you will advance innovative product concepts from the design screen to full-scale manufacturing. The ideal candidate will collaborate across the organization to refine designs for manufacturability, develop new manufacturing processes/equipment, and establish long-term sustainability.

Roles and Responsibilities:

• Work directly with internal teams and suppliers to develop Laser Process Kits (LPK’s) and Automated Equipment for Laser Welding, Cutting and Marking of metals and plastics.
• Interface with ISI’s NPD and NPI teams to establish Design for Manufacturability (DFM) product requirements, performance goals and process capability to Sustain.
• Specify, develop and characterize Laser Process Kit (LPK) contents:

o Part Design requirements
o Universal Laser Systems, product specific Laser Process Recipes & Workholding
o Work Instructions (WI’s), Manufacturing Process Instructions (MPI’s)
o Metrology/Test Methods, Validation Packages and Protocols (DQ,IQ,OQ,PQ)
o Whitepapers (”Theory of Operations”, Process Characterization, Limit Testing, etc)

• Provide training for engineering and manufacturing personnel on innovative Laser Process technology, metrology, calibration/service, predictive maintenance and safety.
• Improve the quality, reliability, and cost of existing equipment and processes.

Skill/Job Requirements:

• BSME Required – MSME a plus
• Minimum 8 years of manufacturing experience
• Fundamental laser process knowledge (weld, cut, mark) & metrology (Cross-Sectioning, Instron) desired
• AGILE, SAP and MKS experience desired
• Mechanical design expertise (SolidWorks CAD skills desired)
• Cognex vision system programming a plus
• Fanuc Arm programming a plus
• CNC Multi-Axis Programming, PLC ladder logic and HMI programming a plus
• Understanding of Statistical Process Control and its application
• Ability to travel to suppliers on an as needed basis
• “Hands on” individual capable of operating in a fast paced environment
